Nature Coast Wildlife and Water Parks
Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is the premier attraction in the area and is just 10-15 minutes’ drive away. It’s a natural spring where you can see mermaids in an underwater glass theatre, with performances of ‘The Little Mermaid’ and other shows each day – not to be missed!
You can also take a trip on a river boat cruise, hire a kayak and paddle down the crystal-clear Weeki Wachee river, see manatees and other wildlife along the river, and enjoy the water slides at Buccaneer Bay.
Homosassa Springs is one of a very few places where you can see endangered West Indian manatees close up all year round. For more information visit http://www.floridastateparks.org/homosassasprings//.
The best spot for this is at Crystal River where they have facilities for those new to the sport and for the experienced. All the equipment you need can be hired locally.
Several golf clubs and country resorts are in easy reach:
Oak Hills Golf Club, Brooksville Country Club, Plantation on Crystal River, Silverthorn Country Club, Seven Hills Golfers Club, Timber Pines Golf Club and World Woods Golf Club, Florida's only 5 star public golf course.
For sea fishing, you can hire a boat and take off yourself or go on one of the organised trips and let the skipper find the best fishing spots.
The nearest sandy beach is at Pine Island Beach Park, about 15 minutes away. Bayport Park is a nice place to see the sunset, with picnic tables and trails.
